What is RCD Testing?

An RCD is designed to switch off power when it detects certain earth leakage faults, helping reduce the chance of serious electric shock. Testing matters because an RCD can fail over time. If it doesn’t trip, trips too slowly, or won’t reset, people and property are left unprotected.

RCD Testing Requirements

Workplaces must manage electrical risks. Installing and maintaining controls, including RCDs, is part of that responsibility. What’s appropriate for your site depends on your environment and risk profile, so many businesses and property managers implement periodic testing and keep evidence for audits and safety reviews.

RCD Push-Button Test vs Electrical RCD Testing

Many RCDs have a “T” or “Test” button. Pressing it triggers a basic trip test. The switch should turn off straight away, then be reset. Professional electrical RCD testing can go further by checking the installation condition and verifying performance in a more controlled way where needed.

What’s Included in Our RCD Safety Switch Testing

On-site, testing starts with identifying the protection installed in the switchboard. We can check the main building switchboard or individual units.

or both. We also check for visible issues that could affect safety or reliability. If a device fails testing, won’t reset, or shows signs of deterioration, you’ll get practical options, such as RCD replacement or a broader switchboard upgrade pathway where appropriate. All RCD and safety switch testing is completed with state-of-the-art digital testing equipment, and a full report is provided with test results and any compliance issues identified.

Documentation You Can Use: Property & ESG Compliance Files

For many customers, especially strata and organisations, testing isn’t the only goal. You also need to demonstrate that electrical risks are being managed, which will support ESG compliance. Test results are recorded for maintenance history, internal compliance checks, and contractor handover notes. Complete test results and a compliance report are provided with the testing. The exact format can be confirmed when you book.

Circuit Breaker Testing and Switchboard

RCDs and circuit breakers protect your business and home in different ways. But they only work as well as the switchboard they’re installed in. If your switchboard is outdated, overcrowded, or experiencing recurring trips, a switchboard upgrade may be recommended to improve safety and reliability.

RCD Price and Replacement Cost: What Affects It

RCD testing is priced as a quote on site because costs depend on the number of devices installed, accessibility, and whether any faults require immediate rectification. If a replacement is required, the device type and your switchboard setup will also affect the final cost.
